Celebrating the life of
Edward Joseph Fahey, Sr.
April 22, 1928 - April 06, 2014
SAVANNAH - Edward Eddie Fahey, 85, died Sunday, April 6, 2014 in Savannah.
He was born April 22, 1928 in Savannah to Anna Zipperer Fahey and Michael James Fahey. He grew up in the Old Fort area of Savannah and attended Marist School for Boys and later transferred and graduated from St. Bernard's High School in Alabama. He was a lifelong resident of Chatham County until recent years.
Eddie worked for Central of Georgia Railroad for 20 years, and then spent many years as a bookkeeper with Savannah Tire and Rubber and Buddy Matthews Seafood. At age 64 he joined Fr. Patrick O'Brien as a pastoral assistant until he retired at age of 82.
He was a member and past president of the Irish Heritage Society and the Sinn Fein Society. He was also a member of the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. Before becoming the Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick Day Parade in 2002, his moment in history was in 1986 at the Sinn Fein Breakfast where tradition called for lighting of the grits. In the process he also lit the tablecloth and the floor. It was the news of the day.

He is survived by his brother, Thomas J. Fahey Josie of Cleveland, TN, his 3 sons, Ed Fahey Vincent of Springfield, GA, Patrick Fahey Laura of Mansfield, TX and Christopher Fahey Laurie of Savannah, GA. He also has 4 grandchildren, Brian Fahey Jennifer of Charleston, SC, Shannon Fahey of Dallas, TX, Michael Fahey of California, and Mary Kate Fahey Jump Kevin of Savannah, GA.; two great grandsons, Fintan Seamus Fahey of Charleston, SC and Miller Jump of Savannah; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
